AI knowledge base · Company brain

One company brain for every AI tool your team uses.

Your AI is only as good as what it knows about your company. Granite gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and your agents a secure AI knowledge base to search, with answers cited to the source and limited to what each person is allowed to see.

In short

An AI knowledge base (or company brain) is a single, trusted store of your company's knowledge that AI assistants can search before they answer. Granite stores that knowledge as Markdown notes your team edits together, and exposes it to any MCP client through a permission-aware search that returns ranked passages with citations. Admins choose which vaults and folders AI tools can use, and every access is audited.

The problem

Everyone uses AI. No one shares context.

Each person pastes a different, outdated copy of the handbook into a different chat. Answers drift, mistakes repeat, and sensitive files end up in places they shouldn't.

  • One source of truth that people and AI read from.
  • Always current: when a note changes, the next answer uses it.
  • Safe by default: AI sees nothing an admin hasn't allowed.

How the company brain works

From notes to trusted answers.

  1. Write it once

Teams keep policies, runbooks, product specs, and decisions in shared Markdown vaults, editing live together.

  2. Index it securely

Granite splits notes into passages and indexes them for search. Passage text is encrypted at rest and filtered per tenant.

  3. Set the rules

Admins pick which vaults and folders are in the knowledge base, which AI tools may connect, and whether they may write.

  4. Ask anywhere

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and agents call Granite through MCP and get ranked passages with citations to the source.

Built for AI, governed like IT

A knowledge base AI can use and security can sign off.

Permissions

Answers respect access

Every AI request runs as a person or a service account. Search results are filtered by the same roles, groups, and folder access as the app.

Citations

Every answer has a source

Passages come back with the note path and heading, so people can check the answer and fix the note when it's wrong.

Control

Admin AI policy

Turn AI tools on or off per workspace, limit them to read-only, or remove the knowledge base entirely.

Scope

Folder-level choice

Include the handbook, exclude board notes. Choose exactly what's searchable.

Audit

See every access

AI tool connections and access events land in the audit log.

No lock-in

Bring any model

Granite doesn't pick your AI vendor or run a model of its own. Use Claude today, ChatGPT tomorrow, and your own agents next quarter, on the same knowledge.

Write-back

Agents that keep notes

Allow trusted agents to create or update notes, with version history on every change and conflict-safe updates.

What teams put in their company brain

Start with what people ask most.

Handbook and policies

Benefits, travel, security, refunds. The questions HR and finance answer every week.

Engineering runbooks

Deploys, incidents, on-call, and architecture decisions, right inside the editor.

Product and sales

Specs, positioning, pricing, objection handling, and competitive notes.

Customer support

Troubleshooting guides and macros, so AI drafts replies from the real answer.

What is an AI knowledge base?

An AI knowledge base is a store of company knowledge that AI assistants search before answering, so they respond with your facts instead of general guesses. Granite's knowledge base indexes your Markdown vaults and returns ranked passages with citations to MCP clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor.

What is a company brain?

A company brain is the shared memory of an organization: its policies, decisions, processes, and know-how, kept in one place that both people and AI tools can use. Granite is a company brain built on plain Markdown notes with live co-editing, permissions, and a built-in MCP server.

Does the AI see documents a user isn't allowed to open?

No. Each AI request carries the identity of a person or service account, and Granite filters search results with that identity's permissions. Folders a person can't open never appear in their AI tool's results.

Is Granite a RAG system?

Granite provides the retrieval half of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): it finds the most relevant passages in your knowledge base and returns them with citations. Your AI tool, using the model you chose, writes the answer. You don't need to build or host a vector database or ingestion pipeline yourself.

Which AI assistants can use the knowledge base?

Any Model Context Protocol (MCP) client, including Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT connectors, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, and Zed, as well as custom agents. Scripts and bots can also use the documented API with service accounts.

Does Granite send our data to an AI provider?

Granite itself does not call any AI model. Passages go only to the AI tool a person or admin connected, only from allowed vaults, and only when that tool searches. That AI provider's terms then apply, so choose a provider and plan that meet your company's requirements.

Which plans include the AI knowledge base?

Pro ($4 a month) includes it for your personal vaults. Business ($15 per seat a month) makes it workspace-wide with admin controls, folder selection, AI policies, and audit logging.
