Granite
Getting started

What makes a good password?

Passwords need at least 10 characters and must be hard to guess; a meter shows how strong yours is.

Your password must have at least 10 characters and be hard to guess. When you sign up, reset, or change your password, a meter under the field rates it from Too easy to guess to Strong.

Granite refuses passwords that are easy to guess even when they are long, for example:

  • your name or email address,
  • years and dates, such as 1990 or 2026,
  • keyboard runs, such as qwertyuiop,
  • common words and well-known passwords.

The easiest strong password is three or four random words, such as marble ferry violet tundra. A password manager can make and remember one for you.
